Superbowl Cakes

Superbowl Sunday is coming up fast and all over North America and other places people will be cheering on their favorite team. The best part of Superbowl cakes and cupcakes is that the cake flavor can be anything you want from snowy white to deep dark chocolate. Cupcakes are often the best choice for a Superbowl party because people can help themselves and you don’t have to take time out to cut a cake from watching the game. You can also make cute cake balls to serve your guests. There are several fun and fantastic choices for a Superbowl cake, cupcake, or cake ball  design such as:
  • A football shaped cake created using an egg shaped pan, fondant covering and icing laces.
  • A slab cake with a football field on the top complete with players, goalposts and lines on the field. Use green tinted coconut grass, white icing for the field details and goal posts made out of Popsicle sticks.
  • Create the team logo to place on the cupcakes or pipe the logo on a slab cake
  • A stadium shaped cake with sprinkles placed in the stands to represent the fans. You can purchase cake pans that are in the shape of stadiums at most kitchen stores or online from Wilton.
  • A cake shaped like shoes with cleats.
  • Cupcakes with fondant footballs on top, you can even pipe the laces on top with a small round tip.
  • A cake shaped like a football helmet or cupcakes topped with edible helmets that can be bought in packages of eight in specialty cake stores.
  • Football jerseys cut out of fondant or whole cakes in the shape of football jerseys. You can even put your favorite player’s number or name on the jersey.
  • Helmet and football cake balls.
  • Cupcakes topped with banners that have the team names or player names on them stuck in on tooth picks or dowels
  • Cupcakes iced with big swirls of icing in the team colors or just your team colors. You can even pipe the numbers of the players on the cupcakes or use fondant number cut outs.
  • Cupcakes baked in a football shaped pans.
  • Cupcakes with referee stripes, piped grass, goal posts or any other football themed designs.
  • Cupcakes with cheers spelled out on top in fondant cut outs that spell the team names, go team, yah and other sayings when you arrange them.
One of the best ways to make a Superbowl cake is to purchase a Wilton football shaped cake pan so that you don’t have to do any cutting or shaping. You simply pop the cakes out of the pans and let them cool with the design sides up. You can decorate the cake with brown and white icing with laces and wide white stripes on both ends. You can also find football shaped cupcake pans in your local baking or cake supply store, as well.
