We love to look at wedding cake, talk about wedding cake and (of course) eat wedding cake, so we were thrilled when GC Couture’s founder Marie Sinclair shared her wedding cake predictions for 2016 with us!
Pastel pretty
"Pastel colours such as pinks, corals, yellows, baby blues and mint greens are always a popular choice but we predict pastels will be big in 2016!” says Marie. “Pastels are so pretty and they are the perfect canvas for a bride’s own ideas or they can look classic and elegant as they are."

Love Birds
"We’ve had a recent flurry of peacocks and ducks on wedding cakes, so I think birds and animals will definitely become more of a trend in 2016!"

Size matters
"Tall cakes will always be the most popular, the bigger the better in most cases. English weddings used to be an average are 3 or 4 tiers, we are noticing the average number of tiers is now 6–8. Cake toppers used to be huge, but there is less demand now as tall cakes are so in vogue at the moment. Tall wedding cakes really have the wow factor, so brides should make sure they put it on display to really show it off."

Cupcake-tastic
"Cupcakes will never be as popular as tiered wedding cakes but we still have orders for the more informal and casual weddings. Cupcakes can be arranged on tiers and displayed in a similar fashion to a traditional wedding cake, for visual impact."

Top Tier Tradition
"The tradition of keeping the top tier of the wedding cake for your baby’s christening definitely seems to be on the way out. However, lots of brides are now keeping the top tier for their anniversary instead which is a sweet twist on the tradition."
