Hosting a beach wedding? If you’re exchanging “I dos” near the water’s edge,
then it’s a great idea to draw inspiration for your wedding-day details
from the ocean. The treasures of the sea—shells, pearls, coral, the
deep, moody blue hues—can all be jumping-off points for beach-themed details,
but the key is to be restrained. Instead of incorporating all of them,
keep things tightly edited by choosing only one or two of your
favorites. The end result will be elegant and sophisticated, and not
overly themed.

Your
guests will be totally swept away by this ocean-inspired wedding cake.
The deep, sweeping hues are reminiscent of crashing waves while the
sugar-crystal accents along the base of the bottom tier capture the
ocean’s spray. Cake design by Vanilla Bake Shop.
This romantic, watercolor-painted cake
is inspired by the colors of the sea—and a pair of mussel shells makes
for an underwater-inspired cake topper. The cake designer used a
technique called dry brushing, where they hand-paint dry sugar-based
pigments to create a watercolor effect without the water.
This
gorgeous dessert by Cake by Nicole is just beachy enough for an
oceanside wedding without going overboard. The sky blue color on the
middle tier hints at the waterside setting, while the gilded touches
keep the overall design upscale and elegant.
Connecticut-based cake designer Erica OBrien
created this romantic three-tier wedding confection. The ethereal
soft-blue hue is concentrated in the center tier and gradually extends
outward; the hand-painted gold lines are reminiscent of rolling ocean
waves.
When it comes to your wedding dessert, a talented cake designer can turn ocean elements into incredible (edible!)
cake embellishments. Again, if your overall wedding aesthetic is
elegant and modern, then err on the subtle side and aim for a more
minimalist dessert design. Think: soft, watercolor hues paired with
intricate ocean-inspired elements fashioned from sugar. Need some
inspiration? These modern, ocean-inspired confections will surely
complement a summer wedding by the water

Sea Glass
Ask
your cake designer to turn ocean-inspired elements—sea shells, sand
dollars, sea glass—into elegant, edible versions to embellish your
wedding cake. This minimalist design by Hey There, Cupcake in San Diego features watercolor-painted tiers and sugar sea-glass accents down one side of the confection.
Blue & Silver
Deep
blue watercolor washes mimic the depths of the ocean while touches of
edible silver foil along the bottom tier keep the overall cake design modern and fresh. Cake design by Sainte G. Cake Company.
