One of the most anticipated shows of the fall is finally returning: STRANGER THINGS!
The Netflix show about a group of kids battling a demon from the
"upside-down" hooked me from episode one, and I've been aching for the
new season to start. I'm excited to get all my friends together to
binge-watch the premiere, and this cake is the perfect dish to serve as
we get our butts spooked off.

12-15 Servings
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix, plus ingredients called for on box
- 1 stick softened butter
- 4 c. powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. maple extract
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- Black gel frosting
- 26 Peanut M&M's
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°.Make the Sheet Cake: Grease and flour a 12"-x-17" baking sheet with edges or jelly roll pan. In a large mixing bowl, prepare cake mix according to package instructions. Bake according to package instructions, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Set aside to cool.
Make the Maple Frosting: In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat butter until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add powdered sugar, beating on the lowest speed until combined, then beat in milk, maple extract, and salt. Pour frosting on top of cake, using a butter knife to smooth into an even layer.
Using the gel icing, draw three lines longways on the cake, on the top, middle, and towards the bottom—these will be the strings for your string lights. Next, place your peanut M&Ms, 8 on the first line, 9 on the middle, and 9 on the bottom. These will be your light bulbs. Pipe a letter of the alphabet under each light. Serve.
