Unless you want to serve
your freshly baked cake in a pan (not recommended), you’ll have to
transfer it in one piece. We figured out how.
1. Pull the cake out of the oven and let
it cool on a rack in the pan. It's important to let the whole thing
cool completely (you'll be able to check the progress by touching the
pan) before you try to take it out.
2. Take a non-serrated knife, like a butter knife, and run it around all of the edges to loosen the cake.
3.
Turn a plate upside down and place it on top of the cake pan. Then flip
both of them at the same time so that the cake can land on the plate.
At this point, if you're not sure the cake is coming out, you can pound a
bit on top of the pan.
4. Slowly lift the pan. If the cake doesn't come out right away, flip it back over and use the knife around the edges again.
5.
If pieces do end up sticking to the pan, do your best to mold them on
top of the cake where they should have gone. Then cover the whole thing
with icing -- no one will ever know! Frosting is a great disguise.
