Like the infamous dress
that virtually tore apart the internet with arguments about whether it
was black and blue or white and gold, this cake is totally mind-blowing.
After being given a quick flick of the wrist, the dessert transforms
from orange, yellow, and pink to blue, green, and purple hues. And
everyone online is freaking out about the second coming of the color
perception war.

But
before you get too excited about this rainbow-filled masterpiece, let us
unravel the magic a tiny bit. In her video, YouTuber CharlotteSometimes—who appears to work in the bakery at Karsch's Village Market in another video on her account—spins the sheet cake on a rotating stand and we watch as it changes color like a chameleon.
But here's where the cake
differs from the dress, which seemingly changed colors in different
lighting. As proven by ocular science, the color perception of the dress
was based on individuals' brain functionality. In this case, it's just
smart airbrushing.
In
fact, the cake is all of these colors at the same time. It's been
decorated with waved ridges to create small peaks that were then
painted with orange, yellow, and pink food dyes on one side and then
green, blue, and purple food dyes on the other side. When you look at it
from the right, you see the warm color spectrum. When you glance from
the left, you see the cool-color spectrum.
Still
don't believe us? Check out this screenshot from the video that shows a
middle-ground view from which you can see both sets of colors at play:

Though we've demystified
the wonder a little bit, this is still a totally entrancing video we
could watch for hours. Kudos to that little grocery-store chain on its mad cake-decorating skills.
