Ingredients

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2-1/2 cups finely chopped apples, such as Granny Smith

1 cup all-purpose flour
Hot caramel sauce
1/2 cup each butter or margarine, evaporated milk
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

How to make it
Heat oven to 350º F
In a large bowl, cream butter. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and beat until well blended. Mix in vanilla, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add flour and stir just until blended. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into an oiled 9" round cake pan.
Bake for 30 mins or until top springs back when touched lightly with your finger. Serve with Hot

Caramel Sauce.
Sauce:In a saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar and salt. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla and milk. Serve warm sauce over cake.
Directions
In a medium heavy saucepan combine brown sugar and cornstarch. Stir in half-and-half, the water, and corn syrup. Cook and stir over medium heat until bubbly (mixture might look curdled). Cook and stir for 2 minutes more. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Serve warm.
