From cheese to funfetti, calligraphy cake toppers to chic single tiers, find out what wedding cake trends have carried forward from 2015 & 1206 and find out what’s new for this year!
1. Cheese Wheel Cakes[post_ads_2]
Not everybody has a sweet tooth, and those who don’t are going to be super excited about this wedding cake trend. Cheese wheel wedding cakes have been gaining in popularity over the last few years as couples look for something a little bit different for the focal point in their reception. A cheese wheel cake is unusual, beautifully rustic, and offers a fantastic way of introducing some wonderful local Irish produce into your dessert.

2. Calligraphy Cake Toppers
As we mentioned in our overall top wedding trends for 2016 earlier this week, calligraphy cake toppers are the cake accessory of 2016. Though cute personalized figurines continue to make an appearance, many couples this year are looking for a more streamlined look (hence the more minimalist trend for stationery too!). Calligraphy cake toppers are beautiful, they can be bought personalized to say anything you want so you can make them as sweet or as funny as you like!

3. Metallic Cakes
Metallic is going to be a huge trend in wedding decor this year (we’ve picked copper as our fave already!) and one item that will be in on the bling is the wedding cake. Whether it’s gold leaf layers or painted on copper details, there is something so decadent about a shiny sweet.

4. Embellished Cakes
While we’re big fans of the minimalist look, we know there is something just so special about a beautifully embellished cake. From beautiful pearl detailing for a winter wedding to colorful petals for a spring celebration, these are real ‘wow’ wedding cakes that are sure to grab your guests’ attention. 5. Naked Cakes [post_ads_2]
Naked wedding cakes were one of the biggest trends in wedding sweets in 2014/15 and they’re going nowhere for 2016. As couples try to create a relaxed, rustic palette, the naked cake takes center stage. You can keep it simple with open sponge layers, dress it slightly with a sheer layer of icing or give it a nostalgic party vibe with funfetti – whatever way they’re done the naked cake is still one of our fave trends for 2016.

6. Watercolor Cakes
The ultimate contemporary cake style this year is the watercolor cake. Beautiful buttermilk icing in soft pretty shades look absolutely sumptuous, and only need the most simple of accessories to make them pop. We love the idea of a single tier watercolor cake as a statement sweet, with lots of mini desserts dotted around to pick out the colors.

7. Single Tier
There’s just something about a pretty single tier wedding cake that gets us every time! They’re like mini, elegant, perfectly formed displays of style and class (too much?!) and we want to just have one perched on our desks at all times. If a single tier cake seems a little too small for you however, think about having several single tiers displayed on gorgeous cake stands, cluttered together to make a huge impact. Delish.

8. Tea Cupcakes & Cake Pops
For the last few years the dessert table has been a popular option for couples who want to create a really fun atmosphere and have something really cool for their guests to remember long after the Big Day. One of our favorite features of the dessert table is gorgeous items like beautiful vintage tea cup cupcakes and dainty little cake-pops. They also double as edible favours and go down an absolute treat with guests every time!
